Cooler Heads Patient Information

Amma is designed to be portable for patients within an infusion center. While patients will wear their accessory items and are connected to the Amma Unit before, during, and after their chemotherapy regimen, we encourage them to get up, stretch their legs, and use the restroom as often as needed.

Amma users share that acclimation to the cold is achieved in approximately 30 min. While everyone has a different tolerance for cold and pressure, wearing your Amma device should never be painful!

Depending on your chemotherapy regimen, you will either post-cool for 2 or 3 hours.

While some shedding is normal and anticipated, the goal is even distribution of shedding so that your hair loss is not noticeable to the outside world. Some chemotherapy may cause permanent hair loss, but scalp cooling can help mitigate this risk.

Please avoid activities that generate excessive heat or cause heavy sweating on your scalp. We also recommend avoiding swimming or fully submerging your head in water (such as in a pool or the ocean).

Scalp cooling will add time to your day at the infusion center. Successful scalp coloring will require an adjustment to your hair care routine, including washing less frequently and avoiding haircuts, dyes, or styling during treatment and for several weeks afterward. You will need to refrain from certain activities, such as intense workouts, swimming, or submerging your hair.
